Here’s our 6 night tour to South Wales, including a round at the superb Royal Porthcawl as the headline course.
We’ve selected Cardiff as an ideal base, as it’s easy to get to from London, and there’s many direct flights now to Cardiff airport too. Apart from being a great town to explore, there are so many high quality golf courses between Cardiff and Swansea that we know they’ll have a great time.
Cardiff is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the coolest cities in the UK – not only is it the Welsh capital but it’s also home to the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay and the National Museum of Wales. Voted Britain’s best city for shopping, Cardiff is a treasure trove of small Edwardian and Victorian arcades.
Just a short walk or ride away is Cardiff Bay, where you can just while away a few hours over a meal on the waterfront, take in one of the many attractions or enjoy a show at the Wales Millennium Centre. The choice is yours.
Your hotel is the new & contemporary Future Inn which not only has great facilities including twin rooms with two double beds in each room – but it’s right on Cardiff Bay and near to the many cafes and bars so you can walk out of the door to all the nightlife.
As well as offering a whole host of things to see and do within the city, Cardiff makes a great base for playing golf as there are so many top courses, on Cardiff’s doorstep. We have chosen five of the very best for your stay here, all within easy reach of your hotel.
Known by the locals as ‘P&K’, Pyle & Kenfig features towering sand dunes and deep bunkers and is one of the most highly respected courses in the area. ; Pennard is another historic & classic seaside links course and enjoys a dramatic clifftop setting that affords mesmerising views across Swansea.
One of the oldest courses in Wales the classic links at Tenby dates back to 1875. Playing Tenby is like taking step back in time – a natural golfing terrain of sea-washed turf and sandy dunes, a medieval walled town close by and a view that includes the monastery island of Caldy.
Southerndown is an undulating links course, but perched on a clifftop, with the bracken and gorse as its primary defences. Founded in 1905, the course has been touched by some of the most respected golf course architects in the world, and it shows.
Saved the best for last – Royal Porthcawl is simply one of the finest links courses in all of the UK & Ireland and a sheer delight to play for any true golfing enthusiast. The views, the bunkering, the tricky greens and lovely undulating slopes, are a superb challenge and one you’ll remember for a long while.
We can thoroughly recommend a golfing break in Cardiff, where you’re bound to enjoy a feast of great golf and culture.
