Here’s our great value 6 night option for 2 people to visit the South West coast of Scotland.
The region of Ayrshire is best known as the birthplace of Robert Burns, Scotland’s great poet, loved and revered the world over. The vast majority of visitors come here to visit the many sights associated with the great bard, but of course the Ayrshire coast is also famed for its excellent golf courses, such as Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick.
There are a few other reasons for visiting Ayrshire, most notably Culzean Castle to the south of Ayr, one of Scotland’s top tourist attractions. One of the region’s main attractions is the beautiful Isle of Arran, which is worth a visit if you have the time. The most attractive part of the Ayrshire coast and countryside is the south, from the main town, Ayr, south to Girvan.
We have a great guest house for your stay here – Miller House has lovely rooms, with a very welcoming owner who knows how to look after golfing guests, and we get many repeat customers who insist on re-booking this favourite B&B before we do anything else !
The South West is simply one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland and being home to over 100 golf courses remains one of the most popular regions of the home of golf. It is a refreshing mix of famous names and hidden gems, not to mention its fair share of Open qualifiers. Aside from its attachment to Robert Burns and whisky, the region is also the dwelling place for three of the world’s most treasured links courses, Turnberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick Golf Club.
In Ayrshire, you can take your pick from so many well-respected courses, many of them British Open qualifying courses - and we’ve included 3 of them on this tour in the shape of Western Gailes, Glasgow Gailes and The Irvine Club – all offering a great links golf experience.
As fine a true links as one could imagine, Western Gailes presents an abundance of undulating dune ridges, heather and gorse, which will test the most accomplished golfer.
Our hidden gem we’d like to recommend while staying here is West Kilbride. This is one of Scotland’s great links treasures but is less well known to the wider golfing world than it deserves, with some spectacular and memorable views across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran and beyond to the Mull of Kintyre.
Royal Troon is a magical finale to this tour. Its many renowned golf holes include ‘the postage stamp’, and are famous the world over. Boasting a length of 7150 yards, it proves a challenge for even the most experienced of golfers. Additionally, high winds coupled with deep rough and broom demand accurate shot making. A round on The Portland course (6289 yards) is included in the green fees as is lunch.
SPECIAL NOTE: As mentioned above, the composite green fee at Troon is included in our package, which has increased the overall cost of this tour considerably. (Current 2008 green fee for Troon is £220, so for anyone looking to save some money, we could swop Troon for one of the many other top local links courses and save some £150pp plus !
This beautiful corner of Scotland is just a wonderful golf destination, offering stunning scenery, beautiful coastline and a very warm welcome.
