Dublin – St Annes

Moving on to Ireland…. Here’s our recommended 6 night Dublin golf tour for 2 people. Bear in mind prices below are quoted in euros, not sterling and based on a Sunday arrival.
The hotel we’ve chosen, The Grand Malahide, is a really charming four star venue, set in one of the most delightful harbour towns in all of Ireland. Full of restaurants and cafes, this is a lovely place for your guests to unwind and stroll around its bustling harbour. To get to Dublin itself, they can just hop on the regular DART train service, which takes just 20 minutes, so they can go in and out as often as they like.
Ireland’s capital city lies at the heart of a region that enchants the visitor with a selection of fascinating historical monuments, beautiful natural scenery, thrilling sporting events, and unspoiled lakes, rivers and stretches of coastline.
Dublin is usually the first port of call for visitors and this energetic, youthful city pulsates with a compelling mix of history, culture, hip bars and pubs, elegant architecture, great shopping and some of the country’s most sophisticated restaurants. Cosmopolitan and diverse, Dublin is now one of Europe’s top urban hotspots.
While staying in Dublin, we’ve got some superb golf lined up – playing 2 Championship courses and 3 smaller gems, as good as any you’ll find in the whole of Ireland (see descriptions below). To start with, we’ve selected The Island, which is one of our favourite Irish courses. This beautiful links course, in splendid isolation, is surrounded by the Irish Sea, Donabate Beach and Broadmeadow Estuary. Nestling between the highest sand dunes of any links course in Ireland, it’s rugged beauty cannot fail to impress.
The European Club is located in the garden of Ireland, between the coastal towns of Wicklow and Arklow, about 30 miles south of Dublin. This 20 hole rugged links is Pat Ruddy’s creation and his family have stayed there ever since. This is very much an inspiring place for golf, huge dunes provide tremendous definition and the Irish Sea is very much a constant backcloth.
With magnificent views of the Mourne Mountains in the distance, Termonfeckin beach and the Irish Sea to the East, the landscape at Seapoint reflects all the qualities of true links land. Much of the front nine has a sort of heathland quality, despite being sand based. But the last four holes, which run parallel to the sea, are on classic duneland which would not be out of place in Ballybunion.
Laytown & Bettystown is the home course of Irish professional golfer, Des Smyth. This is a fine traditional links course played alongside the Irish Sea at the mouth of the River Boyne near Drogheda.
Your final wee gem is the delightful St Anne’s Links. This is one of the best kept secrets of Irish golf, full of character, with large, undulating greens. The other beauty of St Anne’s lies in its complete naturalness. From the impressive clubhouse you can survey the equally impressive surroundings and the entire golf course as it flows through the low dunes interspersed with gorse thickets.
Hope you like what we’ve come up with – this wonderful tour is one of our all-time favourites. I’ve included links to the hotel, sightseeing and golf courses below.
