Here’s our recommended package for golfers to enjoy a wonderful tour of England’s North West coast, otherwise known as England’s Golf Coast ! This area has the largest concentration of British Open courses of anywhere in the UK, and there are also another dozen first class links courses all nearby.

 

Five wonderful games of golf arranged (have included descriptors below). One of the unique attractions of playing golf on England’s ‘Golf Coast’ is that all these unique and wonderful links courses are all so close together so, minimum time driving and maximum time pitting your wits against nature and the elements !

 

You’ll be staying in Southport for the week and we can’t think of a better place to stay than the highly rated four star Ambassador Townhouse Hotel. The hotel has built its reputation on superb service – it’s been refurbed throughout but retains a lovely warm quality. The two charming owners like to say the hotel offers a level of comfort that’s still homely and welcoming.. Rooms are clean, spacious and food is excellent.

 

Moreover, it’s not only central to all the golf courses, but perfect for strolling around town, so you’ll be able to walk out the door to enjoy all the bars and restaurants – we thought this would be much nicer than staying out of town and being out on a limb.

 

The hardest part of arranging golf tours to this part of the country is deciding which courses to leave out ! To begin with, Southport is the home of Royal Birkdale, which for many golfers, is quite simply, the best of all the classic links courses to have staged The Open Championship.

But Southport’s reputation for being England’s golfing Capital is not just based on Royal Birkdale it boasts another five championship standard courses within 15 minutes drive from the town centre and a sixth only half an hour away. Royal Liverpool, which hosted the British Open in 2006 and Royal Lytham St Annes are also within easy reach.

But it is these other premier & historic links which form the backbone to any golf tour to the region: Hillside, Formby, Hesketh, Wallasey, Southport & Ainsdale and West Lancashire Golf Clubs provide an authentic links challenge, with all the essential ingredients of crisp springy turf, towering sand dunes, hard & true greens and captivating sea views.
