Two London breaks for next year - either staying in town and hopping out for your golf games, and secondly staying just on the outskirts of town, so you’re nearer to all the golf, and can then pop in by train or car for all the city centre sightseeing & nightlife.
We’ve based this on a 6 night break, with 4 rounds of golf included – which will give visitors two clear days for sightseeing -with one full day in London and one day exploring the wonderful countryside, including perhaps Oxford, Stonehenge and the Cotswolds.
For our recommended hotel on the outskirts of town, we’d suggest the excellent 4 star Castle Hotel, Windsor. This first class hotel is located two minutes walk from the main gates of Windsor Castle, with unrivalled views of the Changing of the Guard procession. An easy drive from Heathrow and the M25 motorway, and offers easy train access from London Paddington or Waterloo.
As a central London base, we’d highly recommend The Sumner, which I think would be ideal for your clients, wanting somewhere nice & central, with good-sized rooms and close to all the shopping, nightlife & sightseeing etc.
The Sumner has been nominated for Best Small Hotel in London 2006 & 2007 by the VisitLondon tourist authority (it’s also ranked 8th out of 1010 London hotels on TripAdvisor) and gets consistently good reviews from all our clients who stay there.
For anyone wanting to play some of the renowned heathland courses dotted around the capital, we’ve selected two of the top Championship ones, combined with a couple of smaller gems.
London is blessed with an array of unique heathland courses, including Walton Heath, Wentworth, The Berkshire & Sunningdale plus several hidden gems around the Surrey belt such as Hindhead, The Addington, St George’s Hill, West Sussex, Hankley Common, & the 3 W’s – West Hill, Worplesdon & West Hill.
The Old course at Walton Heath has hosted over 60 major amateur and professional championships in its illustrious history, including the 1981 Ryder Cup and now hosts the European qualifying for the US Open each June. Alongside Wentworth and Sunningdale, The Berkshire is one of very few clubs to feature two top courses in the top 100, and both the Blue & Red are just great golf experiences. Woking is the oldest of the trinity of ‘W’s’ in this delightful part of Surrey (West Hill & Worplesdon being the other two). The fairways are lined with pine, birch and of course tangly heather. Woking is full of charm and can claim to be among the world’s oldest heathland courses.
