Here’s our recommended Kent package, another particular favourite region close to our hearts (and homes !), which works wonderfully well on its own, or in combination with a London package. You can be on the Kent coast within two hours from London, so clients could even nip down for a couple of days if staying in London, to play a couple of these Open Championship courses.

We think the Bell Hotel in Sandwich is an ideal golfing hotel for anyone visiting the area. The rooms and public areas have all been recently refurbed and not only do they have a great bar and brasserie, but it’s ideally placed on the Quay so you can walk out the door to all the bars and restaurants in this historic town. Other big advantage of staying in Sandwich is that you’re literally only minutes away from the Royal Open courses.

Sandwich is arguably one of the best preserved medieval towns in the UK. Within the old town walls the many period houses, with their characteristic “Kent peg” roofs, are laid out in a street plan which has changed little since the creation of the Domesday book in 1086.  Kent is far more than the home of the breathtaking White Cliffs of Dover and the major link with our French cousins. It is home to some of the finest landmarks in the country, including the majestic cathedral in Canterbury and numerous mediaeval Castles, not to mention some exceptional golf courses that any golfing enthusiast will enjoy.

Obviously, one of the finest Championship Links that springs to mind when considering a trip  to Kent is Royal St. George’s, the Open venue on no fewer than fifteen occasions and as recently as 2003 when American Ben Curtis lifted the Claret Jug on the superb Championship course. Numerous huge dunes and the many undulations make this a magnificent links to savour.

In addition to Royal St George’s, there are plenty of other courses to enjoy in Kent. Host to many championships including two Open Championships in 1909 & 1920, Royal Cinque Ports’ famous course is a great test and has one of the toughest stretch of finishing holes in the United Kingdom. It has also just been unofficially invited back onto the current Open rosta, so this is an ideal time to play it before the crowds come and the green fees hike inevitably upwards.

The legendary Gene Sarazen won the Open Championship at Prince’s in 1932.  It is now used as a pre-qualifying course when the Open comes to Royal St. George’s, and is an example of some of the finest links land in Britain. Rye is home to the renowned annual President’s Putter competition between Oxford & Cambridge universities. Rye is also one of the most exclusive clubs in the country and visitors are normally only allowed with express permission of the secretary, but London Golf Tours are able to make all the arrangements on behalf of our clients.

Finally, Littlestone is a classic remote links course, on the edge of Romney Marshes, and with the English Channel as a constant backdrop. A real hidden gem with a reputation for its excellent greens.

So here’s our suggested itinerary for enjoying this unique and treasured golf tour.
